Its cube shape inspired the 2005 Mercedes-Benz Bionic concept car. Later studies showed the real fish is a wobbly, acrobatic swimmer that steers with its fins, not a naturally steady one.

How to spot
Easy to spot: the body is shaped like a hard box or cube with flat sides. Bright yellow with black dots (in young fish) and a small mouth. It waggles its little fins to swim while the boxy body stays stiff.
True colors
Babies are sunny yellow with small black dots. As they grow the yellow dulls to mustard and the dots shrink. Big adults turn blue-grey with yellowish lines between the plates.
