Smooth heart-shaped shell (5 non-overlapping side scutes); one pair of scales between the eyes; rounded beak; one claw per flipper.

True colors

Shell is olive to brown, often with wavy or spotted patterns; greenish skin. The name comes from the green fat inside, not the shell.
