Titan Triggerfish
Balistoides viridescens
A nest-guarding titan triggerfish will chase intruders straight up toward the surface. Divers are told to swim sideways, not up, because the fish is defending the water column right above its eggs.

How to spot
A tall, deep, flat-sided body, a deep groove in front of each eye, and about five rows of small spines on each side of the narrow tail base. The first dorsal spine locks like a trigger.
True colors
Greenish-grey to olive-brown, each scale dark-centered for a cross-hatched look. A dark yellow-spotted band crosses the face over the eyes, the lips are pale, and dorsal and tail fins are dark-edged.
