Species No. 040
Majestic Angelfish
Pomacanthus navarchus
Its baby and adult outfits look so different that people once thought they were two fish. The switch happens quietly, so divers almost never catch one "half-changed."

How to spot
Look for the three-part color pattern — yellow front, blue middle, yellow speckled tail — split by pale blue bands. The blue face mask and the single black bar right before the tail are the easiest signs.
True colors
Three zones: lemon-yellow face and chest, deep blue middle, then yellow back and tail speckled with blue. A dark blue mask covers the face. Babies are dark blue with curved pale stripes.
